25th June

On this day in 2006, 667 Tim Farrell lifted the British Championship for the first time.  Having been involved in a titanic battle with 401 Barry Goldin five years previously at Arena Essex, this time the black and white chequers came the way of the westcountry star.  Via the previous night’s qualifying heats, Tim had secured a front row start with 628 Chris Stephens and shot into an immediate lead.  He was some way clear of 103 Carl Issitt, but a race suspension was called, after a multi-car pile-up in the pits bend.  That brought 7 Gordon Moodie into the equation, but although the Scot moved up to second place, he could not reel in Tim, who duly landed the first major title of his career.
