26th June

On this day in 2011, Belle Vue hosted the British Championship on a blisteringly hot day in Manchester.  The 63 drivers present contested five heats, which produced a front row of 103 Carl Issitt and 871 Mark Simpson.  However, a riotous first lap saw several notable contenders encounter problems.  The race then developed into a battle between 968 Micky Brennan and 401 Barry Goldin.  As they swapped the lead, 886 Chris Bradbury reeled them in, but Barry doggedly refused to be beaten, and having repelled Chris’s attacks, made the most of the drying conditions late on to secure the title for a third time.
