The 2023 National Points Series Championship points have been collated and ratified after round six of the series, staged at Skegness Raceway.
Defending Champion #183 Charlie Guinchard moves to the top of the table for the first time, helped by a Helter-Skelter win, following a tense round six of the series in which the leading quartet could hardly be separated; they sliced through the field, almost as one, finishing in positions two to five in the meeting Final. Thirteen-time Silver Roof record holder, #7 Gordon Moodie, won heat two, and with a Helter-Skelter runner up finish to Guinchard and fifth place finish in the meeting Final, he retains second spot in the table. Despite a heat 5th and Final 4th, the leader coming in to the round, #647 Chris Burgoyne, now drops to third following a DNF in the last race of the day with a puncture. 2019 Champion, #560 Luke Wrench, ended the day as third highest points-scorer, and in doing so closed the gap with now only 14 points separating the fab four.
Behind the leading quartet, the next three drivers have made a slight break from those behind. #213 Tom Bennett has jumped up two places to sixth, just three points behind #618 Ben Lockwood, while #47 Greg McKenzie consistently picked up points on the day and is only another two behind Bennett. #979 Paul Moss sits alone in 8th, while #776 Dan Roots and #903 Ben Spence remain separated by only a solitary point.
Eight drivers are still in with a mathematical chance of taking the title, although for some that is a greater task than others. The is no clear favourite for the title with seven different drivers having claimed one or more of the "Top-3" scorers' bonuses at each round held so far. Double points are on offer at the Series Finale so it would take a brave person to predict the outcome.
The Series Finale is hosted by the YorStox promotion, and takes place this coming Saturday, 11th November, at Odsal Stadium, Bradford, start time of 5pm, and the only way to see the drama unfold is to be there in person.
