In response to information passed on to BriSCA F2, drivers, constructors, and engine builders are reminded that any cleaning processes must NOT alter the finish of any internal engine components (e.g. valves, pistons), or the inner surfaces of externally mounted parts (e.g. water pump, inlet manifold). Any such cleaning processes must be in accordance with the BriSCA F2 regulations (click here). Therefore, manufacturers’ original identification markings, whether part numbers or other identifiers, paint, printed, stamped, cast, or other method, must NOT be removed unless explicitly permitted in the regulations. Engine inspectors, during any inspection process, would therefore expect to observe original Ford paint markings on valve springs, the original Ford logo on valves, and casting identifiers on pistons for example.
Zetec Regulations… 231.04.05 The engine and associated components MUST remain exactly as produced by Ford Motor Company Ltd. unless explicitly detailed in these specifications. 231.05.10 Any treatment that alters, in any way, the surface finish, hardness, and/or any other property of the original production component is NOT permitted.
